Send Bill O'Reilly Back to School - Brave New Films

What a hypocrite! A small-minded, heartless hack without a soul, self-destructing before our very eyes.

He could learn alot from kids. He shouldn't be allowed near children but they have much to teach him.

I am pleased to announce that MSNBC has finally taken my advice and given Rachel Maddow her own show. They ignored my advice to get rid of Scarborough, though, and instead got rid of the slowly improving Dan Abrams. Oh, well.

Hillary Clinton - Attorney General

Joe Biden as V.P.? I can live with that.

Turn Hillary loose against the vast right-wing conspiracy as Attorney General?

I think I would actually pay to attend the hearings.

Three years of putting the fear of god in those "people" and then.....

Supreme Court Justice Hillary Clinton !

I must be hallucinating.

McBush - Could It Be More Clear ?

From Lee Judge at the Kansas City Star.

Why aren't the people in charge of the Democratic campaigns, across the board, hammering on this, the only relevant argument that pierces the BS?

Why is this race even close? Is Obama going to make Gore's mistake?

Make the race about Bush. Who in the hell is better off today than they were, say just 10 years ago? Certainly not me. How about you?

What about:

The economy? The military? National prestige? Juris Prudence? Homeland Defense? The environment? Education? Veteran care? The Bill of Rights?

Puhleez! We could go on, ad infinitum, ad nauseum.

Let's define McCain as Bush and beat the Repugnicants over the head with W, over and over again. And then yet again. Till the last low information (snark) dullard "gets it".

That is all, catch you later.....

The Candidate We Still Don’t Know - Frank Rich - NY Times OpEd

Frank Rich looks at Grandpa McSame's unchallenged narrative:

"...What is widely known is the skin-deep, out-of-date McCain image. As this fairy tale has it, the hero who survived the Hanoi Hilton has stood up as rebelliously in Washington as he did to his Vietnamese captors. He strenuously opposed the execution of the Iraq war; he slammed the president’s response to Katrina; he fought the “agents of intolerance” of the religious right; he crusaded against the G.O.P. House leader Tom DeLay, the criminal lobbyist Jack Abramoff and their coterie of influence-peddlers.

With the exception of McCain’s imprisonment in Vietnam, every aspect of this profile in courage is inaccurate or defunct."...

And yet this demonstrably false meme persists with much of the public and the MSM. Go figure.

Great piece, be sure to read the whole thing.

Nebraska Republicans Spreading Anti-Obama Propaganda

"It had been a lot of years since Republicans had a booth at the Cuming County* Fair. It's a testament to how much corporate PAC money is flowing through Mike Johanns' Senate campaign that last weekend's fair in the thriving northeast Nebraska community of West Point included a booth for the Cuming County Republican Party.

Overflowing with Johanns bags and yard signs, the booth also included a shrine to Ronald Reagan featuring video of his presidential speeches and a wall full of 70s-era Reagan photos. Nowhere was there any sign of current President George W. Bush, whose own image was so carefully crafted in the same western-style...."

"...Of course, we're all familiar with the low road tactics of the Republican Party. But, the idea that they've found their way into our local county fairs, playing on such blatant racism and xenophobia to make so childish an attack against Barack Obama, is really just depressing. This kind of attack is degrading to our democracy and an insult to the values at the true heart of our rural communities."

*My ex-wife's people hailed from Cuming County, I've been to their county fair, it's worse than you can imagine. This is a place where, when a local boy returned from Naval service with a Phillippina bride, she became quickly known as (name withheld)'s "nigger wife". I kid you not.

Thoughts on Patriotism

"The notion that a radical is one who hates his country is naive and usually idiotic. He is, more likely, one who likes his country more than the rest of us, and is thus more disturbed than the rest of us when he sees it debauched. He is not a bad citizen turning to crime; he is a good citizen driven to despair."
--H.L. Mencken

"There are more instances of the abridgement of the freedom of the people by the gradual and silent encroachment of those in power, than by violent and sudden usurpation."
--President James Madison

"We must not confuse dissent with disloyalty. When the loyal opposition dies, I think the soul of America dies with it."
--Edward R. Murrow

"I love America more than any other country in this world, and, exactly for this reason, I insist on the right to criticize her perpetually."
--James Baldwin

"To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public."
--President Theodore Roosevelt

These quotes are for a certain anonymous commenter (you know who you are) lacking a fundamental understanding of the duties and responsibilities of a true patriot.

So: There are actually Democrats here? North County Times

Part of an opinion column from my local (Right Wing) paper:

So: There are actually Democrats here?

By JOHN VAN DOORN - Staff writer

It's hard enough trying to observe people, dogs and the fast lane, then form bulletproof opinions, without having to go back over the once-observed and once-sternly-opined-upon because there is new "evidence" or some such.

What is required, if I believe the latest communiques, is a certain flexibility. One must exhibit a willingness to take the views of others into account, to listen closely, and then, perhaps, to alter in some way one's cool and detached opinions, one's observations, and come to the point of ---- I can't believe I am saying this ---- changing one's mind.

But it's come to that.

In this newspaper, thanks to a writer of ours named Gary Warth, I learned on Sunday that the number of Democrats in San Diego County is catching up with Republican numbers. They're this close.

Curses. For years Observer has written, probably because he paid too much attention to the narrow and the pinched in various local governments, that San Diego as a whole was a one-way place, leaning to the right.

It was hidebound conservative Republican, as he said so many times, filled with tycoons and mink-clad nieces, plus Chamber members and retired military men and women (who in most cases arrived at their viewpoints the hard way).

Democrats, if there were any, Observer led himself to believe, met in rooms with the curtains drawn, and spoke in whispers.

They dared not show themselves in public, was my solid viewpoint, lest rich or violent or traditionally misinformed Republicans, from every reach, village and hamlet in North County, would hurl epithets or smite them with bags of water and force them back to their caves.

I am threatened now by the spectre of Opinion Adjustment.

Gary Warth had to get involved with his smarty-pants reporting, his numbers and other reliable bits and shards of information, such as actual party rolls, to show that the split, countywide, is about even, with Democrats closing pretty fast.

For an event of such great moment, Observer is going to take his time. He is not an ideologue, as is widely known, but he is not given to haste, either. Don't look for an immediate switcheroo.

Still, if the numbers of Democrats and Republicans are now just about the same, chances are Observer will soon phone friends and family in the East and say to them: "Come hither. I was misled. It's not as one-sided out here as I have described it. There seem to be significant pockets of liberals ---- well, Democrats ---- in San Diego.

They will be stunned. But they don't call me "Old Ethics and Flex" for nothing.

San Diego county, especially here in the northern end, has for years been a rethugnicant stronghold. The piece above doesn't do justice to the outright hostility to any other point of view than the Grand Old Party line.

I am hopeful that the above mentioned trend continues. But most of the people I hear from around here express a great reluctance to vote for a Democrat, especially for president.

None seem happy with Grandpa Simpson but not so unhappy as to pull the lever for the exotic newcomer. Inexplicable but true.

But maybe, just maybe, we can get rid of Congressthing Issa, at long last.

John McCain is a racist | Capitol Hill Blue

John McCain, a member of the House of Representatives in the mid-1980s, often held court at a table near the bar at Bullfeathers, a popular Capitol Hill watering hole, telling jokes and matching hangers-on drink by drink.

"Two dykes are talking at a bar and one leaves. As she walks toward the door, the other watches her leave and says out loud: "God, I'd love to eat her out."
Two men are standing near by and one turns to the other and says: "I'd like to do the same. Guess that makes me a dyke."

As a Capitol Hill chief of staff, I often drank at Bullfeathers and was invited to join the throng at McCain's table one evening. A few minutes listening to the racism, bigotry and homophobia of the Arizona Congressman told me all I needed to know.

"Question: Why does Mexican beer have two "X's" on the label?
Answer: Because wetbacks always need a co-signer."

When he ran for the Senate, I attended a gathering of GOP operatives at the National Republican Senatorial Committee where McCain outlined his campaign strategy:

"I play to win. I do whatever it takes to win. If I have to fuck my opponent to win I'll do it. If I have to destroy my opponent I won't give it a second thought."

Dear ObamaNots,
