Science vs. Pseudoscience

Scientific method refers to the body of techniques for investigating phenomena, acquiring new knowledge, or correcting and integrating previous knowledge. It is based on gathering observable, empirical and measurable evidence subject to specific principles of reasoning.[1] A scientific method consists of the collection of data through observation and experimentation, and the formulation and testing of hypotheses.[2]

Pseudoscience is defined as a body of knowledge, methodology, belief, or practice that is claimed to be scientific or made to appear scientific, but does not adhere to the scientific method,[2][3][4] lacks supporting evidence or plausibility,[5] or otherwise lacks scientific status.

California Supreme Court Lifts Ban on Gay Marriage

I take no position on what consenting adults do in the privacy of their own homes. It is, indeed, a most fundamental right.

The LBGT community has every right to be as miserable as the rest of us. Best wishes.

The really anticipated fun here will be watching the Churchies and their allies as their heads explode.

Those damn Repugnicant appointed, activist judges! How dare they!

ROTFLMAO!

Secret McCain Campaign Slogan Memo Leaked: #5 The White Candidate!

From Lee Camp, found on Crooks and Liars.

I still can't believe the number of people I talk to who cannot, under any circumstances, see themselves voting for a mixed-race man or a woman.

The sad thing about the above parody is that way too many of the punch lines seem like good reasons to a significant number of the electorate.

Maybe I worry too much.

Shame of a Nation: BBC | Americas | Georgia death row inmate executed

BBC NEWS Americas Georgia death row inmate executed

"...States began using the injections in 1978 as an alternative to previously used methods of execution such as electrocution.

Concerns were raised about lethal injection recently when it was discovered that some prisoners were taking up to 30 minutes to die instead of 15.

A 2005 study also sparked controversy by suggesting the amount of sedation given might not be enough to stop the inmate feeling the painful effects of the other drugs - but would prevent him crying out..."

22 states prohibit Veteranarians from using this method to "euthanize" pets.

Not to mention those innocents that have surely been executed by the state.

I'm not too proud, you?

John McCain: Maverick? - Washington Bureau

A senior adviser to John McCain says the Republican presidential candidate’s campaign is now talking with senior White House staff everyday.

President Bush and McCain, former GOP rivals, “have an excellent relationship,” Charlie Black said at a lunch hosted by the Christian Science Monitor.

Black said McCain is “not a protégé” of President Bush and would not be an extension of Bush’s presidency as Democrats have claimed.

He cited McCain’s differences with Bush on federal spending and the initial war strategy, but was clear that Bush’s White House team is helping the presumptive Republican nominee at every turn of the campaign.

Black said the White House got a “head’s up” earlier this week before McCain called out Bush for his poor handling of hurricane Katrina in 2005...

Oh, John, you're such a maverick!

Voter Fraud Prevented: Indiana nuns lacking ID denied at poll by fellow sister - Yahoo! News

Indiana nuns lacking ID denied at poll by fellow sister - Yahoo! News

About 12 Indiana nuns were turned away Tuesday from a polling place by a fellow sister because they didn't have state or federal identification bearing a photograph.

Sister Julie McGuire said she was forced to turn away her fellow members of Saint Mary's Convent in South Bend, across the street from the University of Notre Dame, because they had been told earlier that they would need such an ID to vote.

Are you as happy as I am that the Indiana Republican Party has put an end to the shennanigans of these rogue "Brides of Christ" and their evil plan to subvert democracy?

OLD BUTCH - A Fable for our Time?

Here's a little nugget from my Inbox, courtesy of Judy Lou...

John, the farmer, was in the fertilized egg business. He had several hundred young layers (hens), also called "pullets," and ten roosters, whose job it was to fertilize the eggs.

The farmer kept records, and any rooster that didn't perform went into the soup pot and was replaced. That took an awful lot of his time, so he bought a set of tiny bells and attached them to his roosters. Each bell had a different tone so John could tell from a distance which rooster was performing. Now he could sit on the porch and fill out an efficiency report simply by listening to the bells.

The farmer's favorite rooster was old Butch, a very fine specimen. But on this particular morning, John noticed old Butch's bell hadn't rung at all. John went to investigate. The other roosters were chasing pullets all over the place with bells-a-ringing. The pullets, upon hearing the roosters coming, would run for cover.

But to Farmer John's amazement, old Butch had his bell in his beak, so it couldn't ring. He'd sneak up on a pullet, do his job and walk on to the next one.

John was so proud of old Butch, he entered him in the Renfrew County Fair, and he became an overnight sensation among the judges.

The result . . . The judges not only awarded old Butch the No Bell Piece Prize, but they awarded him the Pulletsurprise as well.

Clearly old Butch was a politician in the making: Who else but a politician could figure out how to win two of the most highly coveted awards on our planet by being the best at sneaking up on the populace and screwing them when they weren't paying attention.

The Moral: Vote carefully this year . . . the bells are not always audible!

Maybe we should call the farmer Butch and the wily rooster Old John.

Break-ins plague targets of US Attorneys by RAW STORY - Hunt and Liddy's Excellent Adventures, Part II?

The Permanent Republican Majority Part VI

MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA – In two states where US attorneys are already under fire for serious allegations of political prosecutions, seven people associated with three federal cases have experienced 10 suspicious incidents including break-ins and arson.

These crimes raise serious questions about possible use of deliberate intimidation tactics not only because of who the victims are and the already wide criticism of the prosecutions to begin with, but also because of the suspicious nature of each incident individually as well as the pattern collectively. Typically burglars do not break-into an office or private residence only to rummage through documents, for example, as is the case with most of the burglaries in these two federal cases....

You should take a few moments to read this excellent article, part of a series, that tells you all you need to know about the soul of the GOP.

Nothing to be learned at all from the Watergate scandals, no parallels, nothing to see here, move along. No need for sworn statements, just a little coincidence here, nothing more.

Yeah, right...
