What Sarah sees from her front porch...

Found on Digg w/out attribution

Asked about Alaska's part in national defense against its maritime neighbor, Fey-as-Palin explained, "Every morning when they wake up, Alaskans look to see if there are any Russians hanging around, and if so its our responsibility to say shoo!"

From the L.A. Times: People with strongly conservative views were three times more fearful than staunch liberals after the effects of gender, age, income and education were factored out.

Conservatism = Fear of the Boogeyman? Well, it explains some of the madness.

BBC weighs in on Presidential Debate, Round One

From the BBC:

"I would say the two candidates finished more or less even on the issue of the economy - and the moderator, Jim Lehrer, even sounded a little frustrated as he tried and failed to get them to address how their economic plans might be changed by the virus of financial decay currently spreading through the banking system.

snip

But in the foreign policy section of the debate, it seemed to me John McCain emerged a clear winner, although there were individual issues like Iraq on which the Democratic contender more or less held his own.

snip

Mr Obama had some good moments on Iraq and was able to reel off a series of charges against Mr McCain, finishing each with the phrase: "You were wrong."

snip

Expect much more on the economy in those confrontations and, if the polls show that Mr McCain's more aggressive tone has paid off in this first clash, expect all the debates which follow to be a little more bad-tempered and direct than this one."

The Raw Story | Bush Administration will keep secret 'grim' Afghanistan report quiet until after election

A secret US intelligence report which says the political and military situation in Afghanistan is "grim" will be withheld from the public until after the election, a new report says.

Intelligence officials are finishing up the National Intelligence Estimate on Afghanistan, according to ABC's Brian Ross, "but there are 'no plans to declassify' any of it before the election," an official said.

I hope this goes viral. There is just too much nonsense coming out of the mouths of McGrumpy's supporters regarding Obama raising their taxes.

Under Obama's plan, taxes will go up for approximately 750,000 households. At 74,250,000 households, taxes will go down, in some cases significantly, or at least not go up.

It's middle-class spending that makes this economy work, not the trickle-down BS the party of Bush is still peddling.

Economist: McCain's Campaign: Lying, cynical, Divisive

It's clear from across the pond. Maybe we're too close?

America not quite at its best (final paragraph):

"What Mrs Palin does do, as a committed pro-lifer, is to ensure that the evangelical wing of the Republican party will turn out in their multitudes. Mr McCain has thus placed abortion, the most divisive cultural issue in America, at the centre of his campaign. His defenders claim that it is too big an issue to be ignored, that he has always opposed abortion, that culture wars are an inevitable part of American elections, and that it was only when he appointed Mrs Palin that the American public started to listen to him. All this is true: but the old Mr McCain, who derided the religious right as “agents of intolerance”, would not have stooped to that."

Reading the foreign press is a great way to step back and see the forest for the trees. Read it for yourself. From their point of view, it must look like "Inherit the Wind" is a current events documentary.

Thank god the GOP is there to protect the right-to-life of the HPV virus.

What Price a Nation?

American Democracy sold out for "30 pieces of silver"; from the NY Times:

This Act may be cited as ____________________.

Sec. 2. Purchases of Mortgage-Related Assets.

(a) Authority to Purchase.--The Secretary is authorized to purchase, and to make and fund commitments to purchase, on such terms and conditions as determined by the Secretary, mortgage-related assets from any financial institution having its headquarters in the United States.

(b) Necessary Actions.--The Secretary is authorized to take such actions as the Secretary deems necessary to carry out the authorities in this Act, including, without limitation:

(1) appointing such employees as may be required to carry out the authorities in this Act and defining their duties;

(2) entering into contracts, including contracts for services authorized by section 3109 of title 5, United States Code, without regard to any other provision of law regarding public contracts;

(3) designating financial institutions as financial agents of the Government, and they shall perform all such reasonable duties related to this Act as financial agents of the Government as may be required of them;

(4) establishing vehicles that are authorized, subject to supervision by the Secretary, to purchase mortgage-related assets and issue obligations; and

(5) issuing such regulations and other guidance as may be necessary or appropriate to define terms or carry out the authorities of this Act.

...Sec. 8. Review.

Decisions by the Secretary pursuant to the authority of this Act are non-reviewable and committed to agency discretion, and may not be reviewed by any court of law or any administrative agency.

Sarah: Why the cover-up?

If I am the vice-presidential nominee of a major party and I am implicated in some sort of scandal, investigation ongoing since before my selection, I either:

A) Welcome the investigation so as to prove my innocence...

or

B) I obfuscate, obstruct, obtain trial lawyers and otherwise obscure, while making false claims of whateverism, so as to prevent the damning truth of my perfidy from coming out before the election.

Which do you think is the right answer?

Lying Liars

This beggars belief;

McCain campaign spokesman Ed O’Callaghan told a news conference Monday that the governor, the Republican nominee for vice president, will not cooperate as long as the investigation “remains tainted.”

In July, the four Democrats and eight Republicans on Alaska's Legislative Council voted unanimously to investigate the circumstances of Monegan's dismissal. Although Monegan was an at-will employee who could be fired for almost any reason, lawmakers wanted to see whether Palin tried to use her office to settle a personal score with Wooten.

So, if I'm not mistaken, a 2 to 1 party advantage is still not enough to guarantee a "taint-free" investigation.

How do you McSame enthusiasts justify drawing breath?

It gets down to race...

From the AP:

Obama Waffles (extremely offensive).

McCain's lead comes from whites.

I hear the mumblings all the time at the neighborhood watering hole.

"Can't see myself voting for him." is as nicely as it gets put.

These are mostly decent people, showing me a side of themselves I've never seen before.

I'm especially dissappointed with the ex Marines. They should know better.

One is a retired Colonel, 30 or so years, works hard to help vets of any service get their full benefits, white or black.

But I heard him say the most disgusting things about a "halfrican-American" in the White House, I scarcely believed my ears.

A dear friend, Jewish, family in Israel, tells me he/she can never vote for a (N-word), especially one who is a Muslim sympathizer.

Even family have let me down.

Don't kid yourself, in the end, McCain will play the race card (and it might work).

McCain: POW of the GOP? Honest McCain Campaign Poster #27

From the New Yorker...

"I wasn’t in St. Paul, but through the filter of the endless chatter on cable news, here’s how the Republican Convention looked: John McCain became a P.O.W. this week, at the hands of his own Party. It was Sarah Palin’s Convention, not McCain’s....

...This time, though, McCain is collaborating with his captors. By picking Palin he knowingly guided his campaign well over hostile territory and then aimed its nose straight down....

...His capitulation to the latest group of hard-liners to take him prisoner is a lot harder to justify."

McCain has said he'll do anything, run over anyone, on his way to the top. I believe him.

Red State on Palin (w/ Bullwinkle!)

Here's a different take...

Catch you later.....

Honest McCain Campaign Poster #21

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the GOP vice presidential candidate, has hired a private practice attorney to defend her in the investigation into the firing of her public safety commissioner. (more from AP)

I predict that Ms. Palin will not survive as the GOP Vice Presidential nominee.

The cynical, fly-by-the-seat-of your-pants nature of this pick does not demonstrate the qualities necessary in a Commander-in-Chief. In fact, this choice should make any thinking person disqualify this ticket and party from governance.

And if that is not sufficient, Gov. Palin's association with a group that espouses the violent christian take-over of government should be. What an unholy bargain has been struck between those that wish to control our souls and those that wish to control our labor.
