Pre-Teenage Ninja Turtles against Fascism

LIBERAL FASCISM and The Easter Bunny are two of the biggest loads of crap to ever be unloaded on the American public. Only Pre-Teen Ninja Turtles can save you now.

All bow before the power of the Pre-Teen Mutant Ninja Turtles!

Harry Truman's daughter dies at 83 - Yahoo! News

My father (conservative?) met Ms. Truman while studying to be a Naval pilot in WWII. He always spoke very highly of her (not so much her pop).

David McCulloch's Truman inspired me to read much more about HST, including Margaret's bio. He is, for many reasons, my favorite prez of the modern era.

IMHO, what this nation needs at this time, is a man of Truman's gifts and humility, appreciation of history and respect for the office. A man of and from the people, who knows where he's from and knows where it is he will return.

Weekend Blues

Without a doubt, this has been one of the most stubborn colds ever endured, not just by myself, but the general population around here this last couple of weeks.

You begin to think, just another day and I'll be well and then WHAM, there go the sinuses, or the coughing or sneezing again.

Now it's raining like nobody's business and a real chill is in the air.

Robitussin and sudafed for dessert, again, pfft!

DINOs about to cave - again?

Called the San Diego offices of Sens. Feinstein and Boxer this afternoon to express my feelings about the FISA proceedings.

The staffer at Sen. Feinstein's office seemed annoyed, while the staffer at Sen. Boxer's office was pleasant and asked a couple of questions. The V-mail at Sen. Boxer's D.C. office was full!

My point was that Sen. Dodd needs the help of his Democratic colleagues and that I would watch closely to see what my elected representatives did (or did not) do to protect the rule of law and respect the Constitution.

I sincerely doubt Sen. Feinstein will come through, she seems to be eyeing the bottom half of the GOP ticket. Her re-election will be tough without a spine.

DUH!

With a year to go, trust academia to prove what has been obvious to all but 29% of us for a very long time.

What galls the most is Shrub and Dick's cynical belief, since proven mostly true, that they would get away with it because a fearful mob is easy to lead and we want to believe our elected leaders in time of crisis. And just because they could. Bastards!

Vets

As a service-connected disabled vet, I get my health care, when they're able, from the Veteran's Administration Hospital here in San Diego.

My last few visits have been a gut wrenching reminder of the costs of war and who it is that really pays when our nation uses the might of the military to achieve international policy goals.

If you've never been, vet or non-vet, I suggest you could learn a lot and do some real good by arranging with the volunteers to pay a goodwill visit to lonely, deserving wounded veterans at your local Vet's hospital. Especially easy here, as the hospital is way beyond capacity with vets suffering from some of the most brutal wounds ever survived. Some too gruesome to look at, some you can't even see. (Up yours, Bill-O!)

These valiant men and women answered their nation's call, served with honor and distinction. Will we, as American citizens, answer the call of veterans as valiantly? One hopes.

Charger Blues

It was a good story but the ending wasn't happy. Three trips to the red zone yielded only field goals and you can't beat the Pat's that way. For a nicked-up team, though, we acquitted ourselves well and the defense was most impressive.

After a one and three start, it was a pretty fair year, with good prospects for next season. We're proud of our team. Congrats, guys, you deserved better, wait'll next year!

And now, switching to Baseball mode...

MSNBC owes a debt to the public to act as a guardian of our Constitution if their journalistic cred is to be believed.

On all the networks, cable stations, at every newspaper, there are numerous examples of the press failing to live up to their obligations to inform the public, question authority and protect us all from the tyranny of the few. Martin Schram at the Sacramento Bee says it well:

When the Fourth Estate fails to do its job, watch out for the Fifth Column. It's not just about one guy, it's about an entire profession and what it means to be a professional as opposed to a sycophantic, unquestioning cheerleader.

Charger Mania

Sunday was a remarkable day for this Chargers fan. As usual, the guys all met here for food, fun and, this week, a presumptive funeral. Don't get me wrong, we wanted the win, felt it was possible but had been told by experts not to expect too much. When we realized it would be necessary to beat the officials as well as the other team, hope waned. When by the final quarter injuries had cost us a Pro Bowl TE, an MVP RB and the starting QB, well, shit, start the dirge.

Five lead changes and a 4th quarter that will be an instant classic later, this place exploded! We could be heard all the way to the moon and back. This most fortunate result gave us pause. A lucky day for Bolts fans? Let's test this hypothesis with a trip to the local Indian casino to try our luck and watch the PM game.

This first post on my new blog is courtesy of the brand new laptop provided me by Native American generosity and a 21 dealer we like to call She who busts.

I hope to use this tool to inform and inflame, kvetch and moan, make new friends, new enemies (this means Wingnuts and Bible-thumpers) and stay in touch with the larger world. Politics are my interest, jokes a minor passion, baseball, sailing, reading reasons to get up and in the words of Garrison Keillor, "Do that which must be done."
